Emory Healthcare Deploys TwitchView™ Train-of-Four Monitor Systemwide

Blink Anesthesia

Seattle, WA February 14th, 2022 - To align with the emerging standard of care in managing neuromuscular blockade, Emory Healthcare is installing the TwitchView train-of-four monitor in all operating rooms systemwide. The department of anesthesia has collaborated with Blink Device Company on a comprehensive education and implementation plan.

Neuromuscular blocking agents are administered to over 14,000,000 patients each year, and numerous studies have found that they have the potential to cause significant patient harm if not managed properly. Because of inadequate monitoring, residual paralysis is common; its consequences range from discomfort to respiratory compromise and death. Consequently, anesthesia societies worldwide are releasing guidelines that recommended or require quantitative monitoring whenever these drugs are used.

Dr. Grant Lynde, Vice Chair, Quality Improvement at Emory University School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesia, commented: “Quantitative neuromuscular monitoring is rapidly becoming a standard of care and Emory is making the best technology available to our anaesthesia providers. By combining the TwitchView monitor with a reversal policy, we’re standardizing patient care while realizing a substantial savings on our reversal drugs.”
